Oh The Places You'll Go!

Thinking/Learning about the Terracotta Army got me thinking of how fun/cool it would be to see it up close and personal. As a History major there are ALOT and I mean ALOT of places I would love to go see before I die...So here is my bucketlist and I will definitely be a reminder for my goals in the future!! :)

Terracotta Army

In my World Civ class we are learning about Ancient China which is absolutely fascinating!!! (as my prof would say!) We discussed the Great Wall of China today which took 15 years to complete and people were forced from their rural farms to build the wall or else sentenced to death! But the most interesting thing was the discovery of the Terracotta Army. The first Emperor of China- Qin Shi Huangdi had an amazing tomb built that is quite possibly the biggest and most grand ever (Even beating King Tut!) There are myths surrounding his tomb including mercury lakes (huge amounts of Mercury have been found in the hillside around the suppossed area) In the 1970's locals uncovered the first of the Terracotta Army...where there are around or over 8,000 Terracotta Soldiers which guard and protect the tomb along with chariots/horses. Each face is different from the first which makes this definitely unique!!! Many have yet to be unearthed as Chinese officials are cautious to damage this precious find!

It still gives me chills!

Sarah and I watched MIRACLE last night, which for those of you that dont know is the story of the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Team. The team is a bunch of young guys that are rivals from college hockey teams. They have to learn to unite as a team, and face the biggest game of their lives...beating the Soviets who are considered to be Hockey's Dynasty! There is a scene in which coach Herb Brooks (Kurt Russell) gives a speech before the semi-finals in which the team plays Russia:

"Great moments... are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here, tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game. If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can! Tonight, WE are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players. Every one of you. And you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw 'em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it."

So why is this relevant?! Why does this speech give me chills?!

The 2004 State Championships. I was lucky enough to get to be apart of Inglemoor Softball History. We ourselves were a Miracle as we defeated the odds and won 3 games in a row to get to State. We then swept ourselves through the hardest bracket in the tournament right to the Championship game..and facing our league rivals... Eastlake. Whom we had lost 7+ games in a row to over the past 2 years including an intense playoff game the week before. As we prepared for the big game a bunch of us gathered in a hotel room and watched Miracle. When Herb Brooks spoke, it was like he was speaking to us...we all just stared at each other with our mouths hanging open. Coach Skelly gathered us all in the tiny room and we watched as a team and atleast for me...gathered some inspiration (which I kept on the bench) :) We won the State Championship 2-0 finally defeating Eastlake. Hard to believe it will be 5 years this May. And the memory of that day never gets old, and will continue to give me chills im sure, when I watch this scene!

Happy Birthday Duka!!!

Duke (Duka is one of his many nicknames) is Jake and Quincy's Boxer...They got him as a wee pup right before they got married in 2006! He is quite possibly the funniest dog I have ever met in my life...and believes he is small like his brother Bruno...who is Weiner Dog. I got a message from Jake this morning reminding me it was Duke's big day and I should give him a shout out in my blog...so Happy Birthday Dukie!!! I hope you got a nice treat and maybe a run in the dog park!

My Key To Workingout Is...

My Ipod. Seriously. I have put together the most A-M-A-Z-I-N-G workout mix. With these songs I can hit the gym for hours. In fact, my friends are starting to not want to go with me because I like to go there for so long! Who would have thought?!?! I have started a routine of every other day where I do a 60 minute cardio, stretch and ABS and OR 30 -45 minute Cardio, Arms, Legs, Abs and stretching. If Im lucky... I can get in a 60 minute Cardio plus arms, legs and Abs! (Usually when I go with Sarah!) As long as I have my Ipod and ESPN or something interesting to focus on the TV Im good to go!!!

Today's Funny...But a Lesson all rolled into one

Okay so for the most part the residents of Ellensburg do not bother me...they are friendly and say hello...but there is a kind that tends to get on my nerves...they are what I call the bible knockers. Now. I have no problems letting people express their beliefs because God knows I am an extremely opinionated person. But there is a certain point where people should BACK OFF. I understand knocking door to door through the college neighborhoods once...or twice a year...but when we start to get to every other week a line needs to be drawn....We always joke about what we should say and do to them..and today we got an opportunity.

Chelsea and I were headingout to the gym when there was a knock at the door...we looked out Sarah's window and recognized the ladies...I quickly grabbed a bottle of Vodka off the fridge and opened it as Sarah and I answered the door...the looks on the ladies face was priceless. They were mortified. As Sarah talked to them I walked down the hallway loudly asking Chelsea if she wanted Vodka...It was quarter to 2 in the afternoon...The ladies were SO shocked they couldn't speak. I thought Sarah would pee her pants trying not to laugh...


Later, as my friends were leaving after our back to school dinner, I noticed a white envelope...I picked it up and opened it...

They had come back and placed a note telling us that we weren't perfect like they were and that because we weren't perfect we were going to hell.. I am seriously not even joking...we laughed so hard.

NOBODY is perfect. Infact by putting that note on our doorstep and harrassing us everyweek to make us believe what they do they are being imperfect. Whether we like it or not we ALL make mistakes thats why Christ died on the Cross so that we could ask God for his forgiveness for the mistakes we make and SAVE us so that we CAN go to heaven. I have NO REGRETS what I did today in fact it makes me even more glad that I did do what I did..and tomorrow we will be checking into the soliciting policies in our complex. I dont agree with what they do, but again they obviously dont agree with what WE do or they wouldnt be knocking on everybody's doors!!! But what makes me mad is that they think they are better than us or that they are perfect when clearly everybody has issues and imperfections!

Spring Break

Spring Quarter begins Tuesday...and I spent a nice week at home:

• Worked @ the Alderwood Team Store which is ALWAYS alot of fun!
• Attended the Seattle Thunderbirds (hockey!) playoff game (they lost!) I believe I am like 1-8 at their playoff games... I should probably stop going to those... Went with Candace and Christin as well as our Boss Don and some of his friends and family (he bought a block of tickets)
• Went Wine Tasting with Mom and her friend Judy...always a fun time!!!
• Had Super Nachos and Margaritas with Kalia and Em at our favorite place La Corona in Jaunita...it was REALLY nice to see them and catch up on life!!!
• I met with Jake and Quincy for lunch and a nice long visit. It was great to see them and we had a lot of fun!!!
• Nice quiet time spent reading, relaxing and going through tubs of my saved possessions..I threw a lot of stuff out and kept alot of things as well. The best part was walking down memory lane and seeing and remembering drawings, writings, and cards from the past!!! It was extremely fun!
• Lots of snuggle time with Cameron and time spent with my Mom!
